Malwatte Mahanayake boycotts meetings with politicians; Sajith first victim

Chief Prelate of the Malwatte Chapter of the Siyam Maha Nikaya Most Venerable Tibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera has decided not meet any politicians at his Vihare hereafter. 

 The prelate has taken the decision since the political leaders had not paid any regard to the memorandum submitted containing important proposals as solution to the present crisis situation in the country with the signatures of the Mahanayaka Theras of the three Nikayas early April.

 Among the proposals was the formation of an all-party interim government which, the prelates believe, would help resolve the crisis.

 The first politician affected by the Most Venerable Mahanayaka Thera`s decision was Opposition  leader Sajith Premadasa, who sought an appintment with the prelate.

 The Opposition leader could meet only the Mahanayaka Thera of Asgiriya, Most Ven. Warakagoda Sri Gnanaratana Thera.
