Mahaweli Ganga swells as several reservoirs release excess water amidst heavy rains

On top of torrential rains swelling the Mahaweli Ganga, excess water from reservoirs is also being released into the river.

On Friday (13) two of the sluice gates of the Polgolla dam were opened and at least 100 cubic metres of water per second is being released, according to engineers, who warned the people living close to the river to remain alert.
