Mahanayakes presented copies of the draft Commission for Truth and Reconciliation Bill

The Interim Secretariat for Truth and Reconciliation Mechanism (ISTRM) on Monday (19) presented copies of the draft Truth and Reconciliation Bill to the Chief Prelates of the Asgiriya and Malwatte chapters.

Dr. Asanga Gunawansa, PC, the Director General of the Interim Secretariat, led the delegation.

Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter and Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanaratana Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter have assured the delegation that they would review the draft Bill jointly and submit their comments and observations.

According to the President’s Media Division (PMD) the assurance was received after the delegation briefed the Mahanayakes on the progress of the ongoing post-war reconciliation.

Ven. Mahawela Ratanapala Thera from the Malwatte Viharaya and Ven. Dr. Muruddeniye Dharmaratne Thera from the Asgiriya Viharaya also attended the event. Additionally, Dr. C Y Thangarajah, Head of Policy, along with Public Relations Executive Danushi de Silva, Senior Legal Executives Yasmada Lokunarangoda and Dulan Dasanayake, and Coordinator S.D. Kotalawala were present.
