Mahanayake of Ramagnna Sect passes away

Most Venerable Mahanayake of Ramagnna Mahanikaya Napana Pemasiri Maha Thera passed away at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital yesterday (17).

The Most Venerable Mahanayake Thera was undergoing treatment in hospital during the past few days. The prelate was 97 years at the time of his demise.

Most Venerable Napana Pemasiri Mahanayake Thera was also the chief incumbent of Hurikaduwa Vidyasagara Maha Pirivena near Menikhinna in Pathadumbara. The late prelate succeeded the Most Venerable Mahanayake Weweldeniye Medhalankara Maha Thera in 2013. The Thera earlier held the offices of Sangha Lekakadhikari ( Secretary General ) and Adhikarana Sanghanayake ( Judicial Secretary ) of the Sri Lanka Ramagnna Maha Nikaya.

The late Maha Thera entered the Sasana in 1933 when he was ten-years-old at the Hurikaduwa Vidyasagara Pirivena.The prelate rose to the position of the Chief Incumbent of the Piriven Viharaya in 1975. He was a son of well-known resident of Napana, the late Ekanayake Mudiyanse Kiribanda.

Funeral arrangements of the Mahanayake thera will be notified later.
