Maha season ruined -Rohini

Samagi Jana Balavegaya MP Rohini Kaviratne says that over two weeks into Maha season the farming community is yet without agro chemicals.

Referring to the Matale District Development Committee meeting this week, MP Kavirtane said that the SLPP government seemed reluctant at least to discuss the worsening situation.

Appreciating the swift deployment of Indian Air Force planes to deliver liquid nano nitrogen, lawmaker Kaviratne pointed out the very fact proved how Sri Lanka mishandled the problem.

“Have we ever heard of airlifting agro chemicals,” MP Kaviratne asked, demanding an explanation how the government planned to solve the dispute with China over the rejection of 20,000 metric tonnes of carbonic fertiliser. Pointing out that the rejected consignment had been part of 99,000 metric tonnes of carbonic fertiliser ordered from China, MP Kaviratne said that the government owed an explanation over the unprecedented crisis.

“The bottom line is that there is no way we are going to secure supplies in time for the Maha season,” MP Kaviratne said (SF)
