Magistrate orders police to intensify probe into attack on residence of TV anchor

The Kesbewa Magistrate on 26 March 2022 directed the police to intensify the investigation pertaining to the stoning and throwing of faeces at the Piliyandala residence of Chamuditha Samarawickrama the “Hiru’ Television news presenter.
President’s Counsel Kuvera de Zoysa told The Island, that he had pointed out to the Magistrate that no arrests had been made yet.
The Counsel explained that the Court wanted the CCTV cameras operative in the vicinity of the house to be submitted to the Moratuwa Campus to peruse and report to Court, the next date of calling of this case was fixed for April 22.
Counsel Kuvera de Zoysa said that the complaint had been filed in Court under ‘The Victims and Witnesses’ Protection Act. The Magistrate had earlier directed the police to give personal and house protection to Chamuditha Samarawickrama, Counsel Kuvera de Zoysa told ‘The Island’.
