Maithripala Sirisena

Maligakanda Magistrate yesterday (04), announced that there was no need for former president Maithripala Sirisena to make a statement before the court on his controversial statement on the Easter Sunday attacks.

Former president Sirisena on 22 March announced in Kandy that he was aware of who had masterminded the Easter Sunday attacks in 2019. The CID obtained a statement from Sirisena on 25 March. On 28 March Maligakanda Magistrate Lochana Abeywickrama informed Sirisena that he could make a statement about his declaration before courts on 05 April, if he so desired. However, Sirisena through his lawyers informed the court on Wednesday (03) that he had given a five-hour statement to the CID and thus there was no need for him to make another statement before the court.
