Magisterial inquiry against Fr. Pieris to continue

The Magisterial inquiry against Rev. Fr. Amila Jeevantha Pieris is to continue before the Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage.The Magistrate issued summons on the priest on the charge of having disregarded a magisterial order and gone walking with a group of protesters along York Street, Fort, which had been street had been declared out of bounds for the protesters.

The priest has also been accused of violating a magisterial direction to be present in Court on 27 May 2022.

President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsekularatne told the Magistrate that his client was unaware of the aforesaid directions. The moment he received the information, he had answered summons, the counsel said.The Magistrate granted bail to the priest, but imposed a travel ban on him.Counsel Arsekularatne appeared with Chamindri Arsecularatne for Fr. Pieris.
