LPL games hit by rain
Lanka Premier League resumed yesterday after a day’s break and the first game scheduled for last evening between Galle Gladiators and Dambulla Giants was called off due to rain with both teams sharing a point each.
Batting first, Dambulla Giants ended with 159 for seven in their 20 overs recovering after a poor start. They were 79 for five in 12th over of the innings but a 45 run stand for the sixth wicket between Ramesh Mendis (33*) and Dasun Shanaka (37) bailed them out. Some big hitting towards the end by Chamika Karunaratne enabled Giants to set a target of 160. However, in the second over, with Gladiators on 18 for no loss rain came down and the game was called off.
The toss of the second game between Jaffna Kings and Colombo Stars was delayed due to rain.
