Local elections on 25 April

The Elections Commission announced yesterday that the District Returning officers had issued gazettes announcing that the local covernment elections would be held on 25 April 2023.

The Government Printer has agreed to print ballot papers needed for postal voting within five days the Commission said.Ballot papers needed on election day can be delivered within 20 to 25 days, the Government Printer has assured.

Senior DIG – Elections, too, had agreed to deploy adequate police personnel, during the printing of ballot papers, as requested by the Government Printer.

The Commission said Power and Energy Ministry, and Ceylon Petroleum Cooperation (CPC) officials, too, have agreed to provide necessary fuel stocks, within the next few days.The Commission said these agreements were reached during a meeting with all stakeholders
