Life’s persistence

One by one, they carry them out,

Survivors of a days-long living-death,

Many bloodily-scarred but still intact,

Now breathing the wholesome air of life,

Amid the warm cheer of caring humans,

But it’s best the world never forgets,

Those untiring rescuers of rare skill,

Who refused to be fazed by death,

But embraced life with outgoing hearts,

And gave humanity a new lease of life.
