Leader of the House moves to restore Standing Orders to previous position

Leader of the House, Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that about 40 private members’ bills had got delayed as the yahapalana government changed the Standing Orders of Parliament in 2018.

Some MPs have also complained to the Speaker that the changing of the Standing Orders has violated their privileges.

The Leader of the House Gunawardena said: “Steps are being taken to bring the Standing Orders changed by the previous government to their previous status, by drawing the attention of Parliament in this regard.”

Gunawardena said that some of those Bills had not been presented to the Standing Orders Committee for more than four years.
