The Divisional Hospital at Laxapana is on the verge of closure due to a dearth of doctors. The hospital comes under the Nuwara Eliya District Director of Health Services.

There were three doctors attached to the hospital until 2022, but two have since left.

The hospital is located near the Laxapana power plant and villagers from at least seven villages receive treatment there.

From 05 June, the hospital stopped admitting new patients and the OPD is now operational from 8 am to 4 pm on weekdays and from 8 am to 12 noon on Saturday. The hospital is closed on Sundays and public holidays as there is only one doctor.

Nuwara Eliya District Director of Health Services Dr. Nissanka Wijewardene said that a new doctor would be attached to the Laxapana hospital soon.
