Lankan police officers trained in Russian language

A team of Lankan police officers completed a special beginner course of Russian language at the Russian Language School of the Russian House in Colombo.It is for the first time in the history that Russian House trained Lankan police officers in Russian langauge. Following the successful conclusion of the six-month course, the awarding of certificates took place recently (Oct 7) at the Russian House in Colombo, a press release said.

First Secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation Anastasia Khokhlova and incoming First Secretary and Director of the Russian House in Colombo Maria Popova, its CEO Buddhapriya Ramanayake, Educational & Public Relations Officer Venurika Jayasinghe and Russian Language Instructor Felix Fernando DGI Sajeewa Medawatta, SSP. Manjula Mahagirilla, CI Panduka Rajakaruna and Director Research Planning of Police Dept, Kamini Senaratne were present.

The release said: “This course is an added advantage and qualification to the Police Department and would benefit the policemen in a number of ways like being able to communicate with Russian tourists when in need, assist them at times of trouble and guide them through. The event has undoubtedly become yet another step in the mutual understanding and long-term friendship between our countries.”
