Lankan film industry is set to commemorate the 92nd birth anniversary of the late trailblazer, Rev. Fr. Ernest Poruthota, on coming Thursday (31). The Rev. Fr. Ernest Poruthota Foundation will host a significant event titled ‘Future of Sri Lankan Cinema’ (Sri Lankeya Cinamawe Idiri Dekma), a national cinema discourse, at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo 7, starting from 9.30 a.m.

This event aims to bring together key stakeholders, experts, and enthusiasts from the local cinema industry to address the pressing challenges facing the field and to chart a course for its future. The late Rev. Fr. Ernest Poruthota, who was a pioneer in Sri Lankan cinema, continues to inspire the industry with his visionary contributions.

During a recent press conference, Sunil Costa, Co-Chairman of the Rev. Fr. Ernest Poruthota Foundation and a veteran teledrama director, emphasized the timeliness of this dialogue. He underscored the importance of industry experts collaborating to find innovative solutions to the current challenges gripping the local film sector.

Vijith Rohan, Senior Lecturer and Co-Chairman of the Foundation, echoed the sentiments of Rev. Fr. Ernest Poruthota’s progressive spirit. He stressed the need for a unified effort among all stakeholders to address the present challenges in the cinema field.

Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini, an Advisory Board member of the Foundation and editor-in-chief of ‘The Gnanartha Pradeepaya’ newspaper, addressed the media during the briefing.
