Lankan dentist appointed President of Asian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry

This is the first time a Sri Lankan aesthetic dentist is honoured with this prestigious position to serve the 35 Asian countries to upgrade the knowledge and clinical skills in the field of aesthetic dentistry. During his two-year term of office, he will develop collaborative programme among the Asian countries in advanced aesthetic dentistry.
Dr. Viiajaykumaran graduated from the University of Peradeniya, in 1984, as a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, and he joined the division of Pediatric Dentistry as the junior academic staff at the Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya, in 1985. During his career, he did his master’s degree in the same university, in 1990, and became a senior academic staff in the faculty. He also received special advanced training in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia through a World Health Organization fellowship.
He worked as the senior consultant of the Pediatric Dentistry of the Peradeniya University Dental Hospital and the faculty of Dental sciences. He retired in 2021 and currently is teaching the final year dental undergraduates on Comprehensive care unit, as visiting consultant. He served in several committees in the University to improve the university education and the subjects’ reviews. He was the senate member of the University of Peradeniya and adviser to several educational institutions. He is actively involved in continuing dental education programmes, here and abroad.
