Lankan ambassador meets Guinea-Bissau president

President of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embalo, met with Sri Lanka’s first Ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, Kana Kananathan, at the Presidential Palace in Bissau last week.During their discussions, President Embalo praised and admired the leadership of Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe for effectively steering and swiftly restoring stability to the nation, a news release from Kananathan’s office said.

The high commissioner is based in Nairobi and accredited to several African territories.

Acknowledging the president’s recent initiative, at the Climate Justice Forum launched during COP 28 in Dubai, President Embalo commended Sri Lanka’s commitment to addressing global environmental concerns. He welcomed the Forum as a significant step toward uniting nations in addressing environmental issues on an international scale, the release said.

Ambassador Kananathan expressed gratitude to President Sissoco for Guinea Bissau’s support of Sri Lanka’s UNESCO candidacy. Both the Ambassador and President Sissoco agreed to mutual support in international forums, highlighting their commitment to fostering stronger diplomatic cooperation between their nations.

This meeting between the two leaders lays a solid groundwork for ongoing dialogue, mutual understanding, and collaboration between Sri Lanka and Guinea-Bissau on the world stage of diplomacy, the news release said.
