Lanka to gift USD 40 million worth of COVID vaccines to Myanmar

The Sri Lankan government will donate USD40 million worth of COVID vaccines to Myanmar, Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella told journalists in Colombo on Friday.Rambukwella said that the country had an excess of nine million doses of Pfizer vaccine and would donate six million of them to Myanmar.

The Minister said that the vaccines were to expire by the end of the year. He said over 17 million Sri Lankans had received the first two doses of the COVID vaccine.

Currently, only a handful of people tested positive for COVID in Sri Lanka, he said.Rambukwella said they awere working with the World Health Organization to deliver the vaccines to Myanmar.
