Lanka Singapore Business Council celebrates 25 years of service

The 25th Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka – Singapore Business Council (SLSBC) of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce was held on 27th July, 2022 via Zoom. The SLSBC was inaugurated in 1997 under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce with the objective of promoting trade, investments, tourism and services between Sri Lanka and Singapore.

Prajeeth Balasubramaniam, Managing Partner, BOVCapital Ltd was re- elected as the President of the Council for the year 2022-2023. Janaka Gunasekara – Deputy Managing Director, Agri Inputs, A Baur & Company Limited, Shiluka Gunawardena, Partner, KPMG and Jerome Brohier – Vice President, Aitken Spence Cargo (Pvt) Ltd were elected as Vice Presidents of the Council.

The President of SLSBC drew attention to the SLSBC’s work during the past year, highlighting the Council’s efforts to promote bilateral trade and investment between the two countries. These efforts focused on areas such as the real estate, education and gem and jewellery industries, leveraging the particular strengths of the two countries in these industries, while promoting the startup and Fintech ecosystems in Sri Lanka and facilitating digitization to ensure greater efficiency.

For the year 2022/23, the Council will focus on agriculture, the food processing and sourcing sectors, FMCG imports and exports, and promoting startups and SMEs, based on consultations held with the counterparts in Singapore. The Council also plans to organize a trade delegation to Singapore later this year, which will assist efforts to enhance foreign exchange reserves in Sri Lanka.

Air Global (Pvt) Ltd, Ceylon Grain Elevators (Pvt) Ltd, Hemas Hospitals (Pvt) Ltd, Kalhari Enterprises, Overseas Realty (Ceylon) PLC, Spear International (Pvt) Ltd, Star Promotions (Pvt) Ltd were elected from the membership to serve on the Executive Committee of the Council.
