Lanka receives more fertiliser from India

The second batch of 65,000 tonnes of urea fertiliser to be given to Sri Lanka under the government of India’s credit scheme, was officially handed over to Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, yesterday (22), by Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Ashok Bhagle.
The fertiliser consignment was handed over at the Colombo Port and a government delegation comprising the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Services, Nimal Siripala de Silva, also participated in the event.
The Government of India has taken steps to provide 65,000 tonnes of urea fertiliser for paddy cultivation in the Yala season.
The first batch of 44,000 metric tons was received last month and the second batch has been received now. 98% of the urea fertiliser, required for rice cultivation, in the dry season, has been distributed to the farmers.
