Sri Lanka is among the worst marine polluters in the world, according to a survey conducted by the Business Times Magazine. It has been ranked fifth.

Well-known Sri Lankan artiste, Lalith Senanayake, is among those who are on a mission to prevent marine pollution around Sri Lanka. He has sought to amplify their message to the public by giving expression to their concerns about the gargantuan problem of marine plastic pollution through a magnificent creation on the Uswetakeiyawa beach, which is full of plastic waste.

Laith, his family members, friends and the residents of Uswetakeiyawa worked tirelessly for weeks to make the plastic elephant project a success. It was sponsored by the US Embassy in Sri Lanka, and the Savodaya Shramadana Campaign assisted Lalith in completing it.

Lalith said the ‘elephant’ was a Christmas gift for the people of Uswetakeiyawa.
