Lakmal gets standing ovation in Bangalore

Suranga Lakmal was congratulated by Indian players and received a standing ovation from the crowd.

Retiring Sri Lankan fast bowler Suranga Lakmal received a standing ovation from the crowd here at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore as he walked off the field for the last time. As soon as Jasprit Bumrah bowled Lakmal for one, the fast bowler put his arm around the former Sri Lanka captain. Rest of the Indian players followed congratulating him on an excellent career.

Lakmal who debuted 11 years ago finished with 171 Test wickets. He’s the fourth highest wicket taker for Sri Lanka in Tests and among fast bowlers only Chaminda Vaas has taken more wickets than him.

Lakmal had a brief stint as Sri Lanka’s skipper helping them to a Test win in Barbados. He is the only Asian captain to have won a Test match in Barbados.
