Health authorities, on Sunday, closed Kambaramali Muttumariamman Kovil at Vadamarachchi in Jaffna for 14 days and directed 63 persons including the Chief Kurukkal of the Hindu temple to undergo self-quarantine. The decision to isolate the Kovil was taken after a COVID-19 infected person participated in a pooja conducted there. The patient was a close contact of another COVID-19 case detected in Jaffna. He had undergone a PCR test, and while waiting for the results he had visited the Kovil to attend a pooja. The PCR test results indicated that he was infected and authorities took immediate action to close the Kovil temporarily.
