Korean ambassador Santhush Woonjin JEONG called on Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the office of the Prime Minister on August 16.

Ambassador Santhush extended his warmest congratulations to Dinesh Gunawardena on his assumption of office of Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. While recalling the long-standing friendship between Korea and Sri Lanka since 1977, ambassador Santhush and the Prime Minister held a cordial discussion to further strengthen bilateral ties. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the founding of Korea-Sri Lanka bilateral ties. In celebration of this important milestone, the Korean embassy organised various events like the Quiz on Korea, K-Pop World Festival, Lantern Festival for Korea Week and the Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship. The upcoming Korean film festival in Sri Lanka will further enhance relations between our countries.

The two parties underscored the importance of advancing economic, trade, investment and labour cooperation between Korea and Sri Lanka. Referring to the recent Sri Lankan government’s initiative to introduce long-term residence visas for foreign investors, including Korean investors, ambassador Santhush said that he hopes this initiative would be conducive to promote more foreign investment to Sri Lanka.

The ambassador further requested the cooperation of the Sri Lankan government to resolve the difficulties faced by Korean nationals on the matter of extending visa requirements.
