KJ asks govt. to reopen Lasantha murder probe
National Movement for Social Justice (NMSJ) Chairman Karu Jayasuriya has lambasted successive governments over their failure to punish those responsible for the assassination of The Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickremetunga during the war.
Wickremetunga was assassinated on January 08, 2009, in Colombo. Former Speaker Jayasuriya has issued a statement on Wickremetunga’s 15th death anniversary demanding that the Wickremesinghe-Rajapaksa government reopen the investigation.
The one-time UNP Deputy Leader said that relevant authorities owed an explanation why the perpetrators of the heinous crime were not brought before justice.
Jayasuriya recalled that Wickremetunga was killed within a high security zone. The ex-Speaker said that pathetic handling of the Wickremetunga murder investigation showed that the country was not only economically bankrupt.
