Kiriella wants suspended cricketers reinstated

Chief Opposition Whip and Kandy District MP Lakshman Kiriella yesterday (08) requested the Sports Minister to reconsider taking the three suspended cricket players back into the national team.

MP Kiriella pointed out that during the recent T20 World Cup tournament some of the opening batsmen were not successful. Kiriella said reconsidering the three talented players who were on suspension would be a good move.

Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa said that the three cricketers had been suspended on disciplinary issues and that in sports discipline always came first.

“The players can join domestic cricket and enter the national cricket team step by step. If you look at your own political party, you will understand what happened due to the absence of discipline,” Minister Rajapaksa said.
