Kiriella wants Speaker to honour his promises to Opposition

Chief Opposition Whip and Kandy District MP Lakshman Kiriella yesterday demanded in Parliament that the chairmen posts of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) must be given to the Opposition.

He said that Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena had promised to give those two posts to the Opposition when Aragalaya protests were in progress.

“The Speaker gave that promise to this House. But after the Aragalaya, the Speaker acts as if he didn’t make such a promise,” Kiriella said.Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksa said that he would bring the matter to the notice of the Speaker.
