Kiriella tells Parliament Rishad being held on trumped up charges
Chief Opposition Whip Kandy District MP Lakshman Kiriella yesterday told Parliament that those identified as directly responsible by the Presidential Commission for the Easter Sunday carnage were still at large while Rishad Bathiudeen exonerated by the Commission was under custody.
The Chief Opposition Whip said: MP Rishad Bathiudeen has been in custody since April 24. He was found not guilty of charges against him by a Presidential Commission of inquiry. Yet, he was taken into custody again. Many are at large although they have been found to be responsible for the Easter Sunday carnage. These are cases with fraudulently concocted evidence. There was a similar case against Shani Abeysekera. Please read the ruling given by the court recently with regard to Abeysekera’s case. Similarly, this is also a case with trumped up charges,” MP Kiriella said. (SI)
