Kiriella insists Gotabaya must go immediately

Chief Opposition Whip and Kandy District SJB MP Lakshman Kiriella told Parliament yesterday that the incumbent President should resign, immediately, and a new President elected by Parliament.

Kiriella said that a proposal had been made by the SJB, at the party leaders’ meeting, held on Tuesday, but that had not been included in the minutes of the meeting.

“The Opposition Leader and I proposed, at the party leaders’ meeting, that the incumbent President should resign as a solution to the current crisis. There are provisions for the resignation of the President and then a new one could be appointed from Parliament. It has not been included in the minutes of yesterday’s meeting,” the Chief Opposition Whip said.
