Killing of MP: two more suspects arrested

Officers attached to the Homicide and Organised Crime Investigation Division of the CID had arrested two persons who stole three rings belonging to SLPP MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala after killing him and his police bodyguard in Nittambuwa town on 09 May , Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.The SSP said the two suspects, aged 30 and 38 years, were residents of Nittambuwa and Ranpokunagama.
The arrests were made on Wednesday.The CID has taken the three rings into custody from a pawn.The MP and his security officer were killed in Nittambuwa town during the unrest that broke out across the country following the attack on the Galle Face protesters on 09 May.
At that time, the mobile phone belonging to the chairman of Meegahakivula Pradeshiya Sabha was also stolen. The CID officers found the same mobile phone in the possession of a suspect in custody.So far 38 people had been arrested in connection with the murder of MP Athukorala and his security officer and 37 of them remanded, SSP Thalduwa said.
