Kidney and ‘testicle’ racket: One arrested
Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) on Monday (05) arrested a person involved in what has been dubbed as the kidney and testicle racket, centered around a private hospital in Colombo.
Police headquarters said that four men and one woman had lodged complaints with the Borella Police claiming that a broker approached them and asked them to sell organs. But they had not been paid after their organs were removed, they told the police.
“The CCD launched an investigation based on these complaints. One suspect, a 41-year-old man from Kajimawatta, Colombo-15 has been arrested. The suspect has acted as a middleman between the sellers and the buyers. He has also swindled a portion of the money that was to be given to those who sell organs,” the police said in the statement issued yesterday.
