Kavya, Lalith win podium places at Junior National Championships

Throwers Kavya Jayasuriya of St. Bridget’s Convent, Colombo and Lalith Samarasekara of Lyceum International School, Nugegoda won podium places at the recently held Junior National Athletics Championships at Diyagama.

Samarasekara excelled in throwing events winning second place in the Under 16 boys’ shot put and fourth place in the discus throw event. Samarasekara cleared 38.44 metres in the discus throw. His silver-winning effort in the shot put was measured at 12.26 metres.

Jayasuriya was placed second In the Under 23 girls’ shot put.  She cleared a distance of 9.99 metres. Both athletes are trained by veteran throwing coach G.W.W.J. Fonseka.
