Kamindu Mendis recalled for South Africa series

Having kept a close eye on the proceedings of the SLC T-20 League that concluded last week at Pallekele, the national selection panel has included several players who excelled in that competition in the 22 member squad for the upcoming six match white ball series against South Africa.

All-rounder Kamindu Mendis, who was consistent with the bat finds himself in the squad and given his ability to send down a few overs, he is expected to play a major role in the series.

Lahiru Madushanka and Pulina Tharanga, two players who had impressive returns have been also named in the squad while Mahesh Theekshana gets his maiden call up to the senior side.

Former captain Dinesh Chandimal, who was one of the six seniors axed from the shorter formats of the game in May, returns to the side to add experience.

Left-arm wrist spinner Lakshan Sandakan, however, has been left out after he struggled with his line and length during the recent bilateral series against India.
