Kamal Pushpakumara at the helm of Sri Lankan hockey

Reputed sportsman Kamal Pushpakumara was elected as President of Sri Lanka Hockey Federation by an overwhelming majority yesterday.

Pushpakumara, a senior Police officer holding the rank of SSP, received 31 of the 36 votes cast at the AGM.

Pushpakumara has some ambitious plans to uplift hockey in Sri Lanka. His short term plan is to make the Sri Lanka hockey team a vibrant entity and popularize the sport at the grass root levels. His long term plan is to make the national hockey team a strong force in the region.

The four Vice-President posts were filled by D.S. Wijesinghe, R. Maheshwaran, W.M.P. Fernando and G.D. Mathiyalagan while P. Vishvanathan was elected Secretary.

B.M.T.D. Basnayake was elected Assistant Secretary while K. Jeyaranam was elected as Treasurer. G.S. Kapukotuwa was elected Assistant Secretary.
