JVP urges people to rally behind it to be liberated
By Saman Indrajith
The people are left with no alternative but to rally around the JVP-led NPP to survive and secure their aspirations, says JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissaanayake.
Addressing the media at the party headquarters in Pelawatte yesterday, the JVP leader said recent changes in the polity had compelled people to think critically, and shown them that neither of the two main traditional political forces was able to save the crisis-ridden nation.
“We are ready to resolve the prevailing crisis and hoist the nation from the abyss it has fallen into. People should join us. We will launch the new campaign on Monday (20) with our representatives’convention at the Monarch Imperial Conference Hall in Sri Jayewardenepura.”
Dissanayake said the people had voted for the incumbent president and the government in the hope that they would usher in prosperity. They have realised they made a mistake.
Attorney-at-Law Lal Wijenayake said that the country had been ruled by several families for the past 73 years. “We had the Senanayakes, the Bandaranaikes, and now the Rajapaksas. Today we are far behind Afghanistan as a nation.”
MP Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and Dr Nihal Abeysinghe also addressed the press.
