JVP urges immediate action on Easter Sunday attacks, brands Govt’s delay a ‘Dum-Dum Bullet’
The issue of covering up of masterminds responsible for the Easter Sunday terror attacks has now turned out to be a ‘Dum-Dum bullet’ on the government, says the JVP.
Addressing a press conference held at the party headquarters in Pelawatte, JVP propaganda Secretary MP Vijitha Herath said: “There is an international law doctrine known as Dum Dum bullet concept referring to social incidents that turn worse and bring out more dangerous results in response to the delay in addressing and solving such issues.
The same predicament has now happened with regard to the Easter Sunday carnage. With every passing day the issue turns for the worse. Hence, it is the duty of the government to initiate impartial investigations as soon as possible. We call on President Ranil Wickremesinghe to immediately implement law against incumbent SIS Chief Suresh Sallay and Pillayan. We remind that Ranil Wickremesinghe was the Prime Minister and his nephew Ruwan Wijewardene was the state minister of defence. They are duty bound to investigate this.
The court ordered former President Maithripala Sirisena, former SIS Chief Nilantha Jayawardena, former IGP and several others to pay compensation. The Attorney General Department has not yet filed criminal charges against these persons. Such delay shows that those in power have failed to act against the culprits. We call on President Wickremesinghe to conduct an impartial and genuine inquiry ensuring justice to the victims.”
NPP Attorney at Law, J.M. Wijebandara and NPP Exco member Prof Krishantha Abeysena also addressed the press.
