JVP: Presidential Secretariat all out to turn public opinion against LG polls
JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake says the Presidential Secretariat has launched a media campaign to turn public opinion against the local council elections, scheduled to be held soon.
Addressing the media on Friday, Dissanayake said, “I have documentary proof of the government campaign. The document has the names of journalists who could be bought over to carry out the propaganda drive. We have the document, and if the need arises, we will make it public,” Dissanayake said.
“There have been many attempts to prevent the holding of local government polls. There are only two possible means; one was to pass a bill in Parliament amending the existing laws or to get an order from the Court.
Both these methods have been tried and failed because the government’s plans stand exposed. That is why they resort to means such as paid propaganda campaigns. We call on people to be alert and see the unfolding of the latest plot by the government to deprive people of their right to vote,” Dissanayake said.
