JVP organises countrywide protests against high cost of living

The JVP is planning to hold a series of protests countrywide as inflation has hit an all- time high.

Former JVP Kalutara District MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa told The Island that the consumer prices had climbed to double digits in November, touching the highest level.

“We have decided to stage a series of protests countrywide on Thursday and Friday to the government to reverse its decision to increase fuel prices and bring down prices of essential commodities immediately,” Dr Jayatissa said.

Protests would be held today at 10 am at Ginigathhena, Walapane, Nuwara Eliya, Dambulla, Matale and Wiigamuwa, at 11 am at Anuradhapura New Town, at 3pm at Kegalle town, at 3.30 pm at Ratnapura Bus Station, at 4 pm in Colombo and Maharagama, Gampaha, Kiribathgoda and at 8 pm at Danduma Junction in Sevenagala in Moneragala.

Protests would be held tomorrow at 10 am at Kurunegala town, Rikillagaskada, Matara and Akuressa, at 11 am at Trincomalee town, at 2 pm at Pundalu Oya, at 3 pm at Badulla Bus Station, at 3.30 pm at Galle Bus Station, at 4 pm at Kalutara, Panadura, Puttalam, and Chilaw and at 5.30 pm at Polonnaruwa and Kaduruwela.
