JVP leader files writs in CA against findings of Political Victimisation Commission against him

JVP leader and MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake, yesterday, filed a Writ of Certiorari and a Writ of Prohibition in the Court of Appeal.

Among the respondents are Chairman of the Presidential Commission that probed Political Victimisation, Upali Abeyratne (retired Supreme Court Judge), Daya Chandrasiri Jayatilleke retired judge of the Court of Appeal, Chandra Fernando (retired IGP), the Secretary to the Commission Ms. Pearl K. Wickremasinghe, and the Attorney General.

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry report was tabled in Parliament on March 4, 2021. The petitioner  said that the recommendations made against the petitioner were purely on the basis that he was a member of the National Executive Council and the Anti-Corruption Unit of the party.

The petitioner said that the recommendations made against him were baseless and male-fide. They were unreasonable. It would ruin his political career.

The petitioner requested the Court to quash the findings against the petitioner.

He had not done any wrong, Dissanayake contended.
