JVP leader: Crisis cannot be resolved without election
Addressing the Matale District Convention of the National People’s Power, on Saturday, JVP leader, MP, Anura Kumara Dissanayke said that an election was the only way to solve the prevailing crisis.
“With the same set of politicians in Parliament, the problems faced by people cannot be solved. The government side contains the very same people who laughed off the problems of people at the beginning of this crisis. For example, when the fuel shortage was felt by people the then Petroleum Minister claimed there was no fuel scarcity.
“People have been asking for milk powder and the government had its henchmen to speak about the ill-effects of milk powder consumption. People have been calling for gas and fuel and farmers are demanding fertilisers, but their demands have fallen on deaf ears. They have had to take to the streets to have themselves heard.
“The President has to go home. When people called on the President to go home, he thought he could hold on to his post by bringing in Ranil Wickremesinghe. None of them now has the legitimacy to hold the positions they are holding.
