JVP claims SLPP allies’ rebellion only a ruse By Saman Indrajith

The SLPP dissidents’ rebellion is only a ruse and the people should not fall for it, says the JVP.

Addressing the media at the Party Headquarters in Pelawatte yesterday, JVP Propaganda Secretary MP Vijitha Herath said: “Eleven parties of the SLPP are criticising the government polices, but theirs is only a ruse.

They would never leave the government though they threaten to do so.”

MP Herath recalled that some of the SLPP dissenters had opposed the provision in the 20th Amendment Bill for dual citizens to enter Parliament, but made U-turn and voted for it. One of their slogans then was that we should not let citizens of other countries enter parliament because such persons would sell national assets to those countries. Ironically, they are now faced with the same problem with the Kerawalapitiya LNG plant being given to a US company,” the MP said.

“Their actions in a way help the government. They have stolen thunder from the real opposition and will betray the opponents of the New Fortress deal in time to come.”
