JVP alleges investigations into Ilashini case moving at slow pace
Former JVP MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa yesterday claimed that investigations into the death of J. Ilashini, who killed herself while working as a domestic aide at SJB MP Rishad Bathiudeen’s house, were progressing at a very slow pace.
Dr. Jayatissa urged the law enforcement authorities to expedite the investigations and ensure that justice was served.
In response, Police Spokesman, SDIG Ajith Rohana said two teams, consisting of officers of the Divisional Crime Detective Bureau and the Divisional Children and Women Bureau of Colombo South had been deployed to record statements and to collect evidence.
SDIG Rohana said the victim’s family had lived in Kiriwandala, Puwakpitiya before moving to Dayagama. Investigators on Tuesday (20) had recorded statements from four persons including the principal and vice principal of Kiriwandala Tamil School, where the girl had studied for a brief period.
Police also recorded additional statements from the victim’s mother and others at Dayagama yesterday, SDIG Rohana added.
Meanwhile, the Borella Police seized the mobile phone of a male domestic worker at the MP’s residence. It has been handed over to the CID to recover missing files or data.
