Junior National Athletics Championships recommence today

The Junior National Athletics Championships which was postponed after the completion of just one session will recommence almost a month after the interruption at the Sugathadasa Stadium today.

Junior National Championship 2022 was interrupted after the first session of day one on May ninth due to the curfew imposed following a spate of violence in Colombo.

The premier track and field event for juniors conducted by Sri Lanka Athletics was postponed eventually. It dealt a severe blow to school athletes as juniors were making a return to the major event after a lapse of two years.

The event was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

The Junior National Championship is the only confirmed track and field event of the year as All Island Schools Championships and the Sir John Tarbat Championships are yet to be confirmed. (RF)
