The carcass of an elephant was found near the Tangalle Wellawaya main Road, close to the Magam Ruhunupura International Convention Centre, in Hambanthota, on Sunday (22) morning.According to villagers, the animal, believed to be about 35 years of age, had been roaming the area. Something like a gunshot wound was visible on its forehead and a trail of blood was also seen. The animal had fallen, causing the collapse of a power line. When journalists asked whether the animal had been shot dead, two Wildlife rangers, who were present at the scene, insisted that it had been electrocuted.
