Johnston gets cracking to complete 25,000 km of roads by December
Chief Government Whip and Highways Minister Johnston Fernando has instructed his officials to provide him with weekly progress updates on the the project to develop 25,000 km of road to be completed by the end of this year.
The project is under the 100,000 road development programme and the targets that had been set should be achieved on time, the Minister told his officials during a meeting held at the Ministry auditorium yesterday.
The Minister said that he would personally visit to inspect the progress of the project starting from August and he wanted to have a first-hand assessment of the standards and status quo of all projects.
He told the Director General of Road Development Authority that he would conduct progress review meetings at the end of each visit and to instruct provincial directors, project directors, engineers and contractors to be ready to respond to the inquiries with regard to the progress of each project coming under their purview.
The programme of developing 100,000 kilometers of road is one of the promises made in the Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
