Joes celebrate with Thomian in the spotlight…
The motto of the Old Boys’ Association, of some of the leading schools, seem to be ‘we celebrate with the best,’ and that’s what they have been doing when organizing their dinner dances…overseas!
They all wanted to celebrate with the best, and they all opted for Sohan Weerasinghe – an old Thomian.
Sohan was in London, early this month, to entertain the Old Joes at their 125th anniversary ‘Blue & White’ Gala Dinner Dance 2022.
It was a full house and everybody had a rollicking good time, especially on the dance floor.
As usual, Sohan was in top gear, keeping the large crowd well entertained, at the Marriot Hotel, in Windsor, backed by the group Frontline.
“It was great to see everyone having a blast, and the dance floor was packed. We ended the night with a baila session and I enjoyed seeing all those baila moves…the Joes certainly haven’t forgotten their baila, although living in London.”
Lord’s cricket scene for Sohan
He went on to say that the Old Boys of these three leading schools have a very good rapport and support each other when the need arises
It was Sohan’s second trip to London, for this year; on the first occasion, in September, he was seen in action at the Peterite centenary celebrations and also at ‘Big Ben Night 2022’.
“This time I decided to extend my stay, in London, to take in the scene, and my trip to the Lord’s cricket ground was truly memorable”, said Sohan, adding that he went on a guiding tour which enabled him to go behind the scenes at the stadium.
“I was awed when I saw memorabilia from Sri Lanka, on display, and, as I’m a cricket fan, it was a fantastic experience for me.”
Sohan – the centre of attraction…at the Old Joes dance
Sohan has another overseas tour coming up – in February, to Australia – where he will be featured at a tribute concert and dinner dance for the late Desmond de Silva.
Back home, the legendary singer/entertainer says he and his band, The X-Periments, have been signed up for several sing-along events, including the Royal College Group of 87 Sing-Along’, on November 26th, at the Grand Monarch,’ S. Thomas’ College Bandarawela Old Boys’ Association Sing-Along, on December 3rd, at the Grand Monarch, and the ‘Christmas Sing-Along’, on December 17th, also at the Grand Monarch.
Sohan & The X-Periments have also weddings and other events lined up, leading up to the festive season.
