Jeewaka century propels Davapathiraja to victor

An unbeaten century by Jeewaka Shashin was the batting highlight of the day as his knock of 139 runs helped Davapathiraja beat Mahinda by two wickets in the Under 19 Division I tournament match played at Galle on Tuesday.

Chasing a target of 258 runs to win Devapathiraja were six wickets down for 90 runs in the 26th over but Jeewaka Shashin helped them pull off an exciting two wickets victory as he anchored the batting line up to reach the target with nine balls to spare. His knock which came in 104 balls included 14 fours.

The former Sri Lanka Under 19 player was not available for Devapathiraja during the last three matches due to an injury according to team officials. His return helped the team register a much needed win as the first round edges close to its finish.

At Bambalapitiya, St. Peter’s scored their eighth consecutive victory as they beat St. Servatius’ by nine runs. A century by Mithila Charles was in vain for the visitors.

In the other matches played in Colombo, St. Joseph’s rode on a century by Hiran Jayasundara to beat Prince of Wales by 144 runs and Nethula Edirimanna scored an unbeaten half century on debut for Ananda to record a consolation win over St. Sylvester’s at Ananda Mawatha. Royal scored six wickets win over St. Thomas’, Matara at Reid Avenue.

At Moratuwa D.S. Senanayake registered a stunning one run win over St. Sebastian’s.
