Jaycee stalwart from Moratuwa dies in Stockholm

Past President of Moratuwa Jaycees (Junior Chamber) Vimal de Mel passed away following a brief illness in Stockholm on Monday. De Mel was an active member of the Jaycees and played a key role in the projects conducted by his chapter. In 1976 he was elected the chapter President and under his dynamic leadership Moratuwa Jaycees swept the board winning several awards at the annual convention for the outstanding projects conducted. He was a brilliant orator produced by the chapter.

In 1979, he migrated to Sweden with his family and worked for the Swedish Railways until his retirement.

The Octogenarian was an active member of the Catamarans Sports Club, Moratuwa.

He leaves behind his wife Margie, two sons Vihan and Viren and daughter Dee Dee.

His funeral arrangements will be notified later.
