Is this the Dawn of Clean Politics?
“It is number 19 sir”
“You mean not at 20 yet?”
“No sir, but it won’t take too long”
Those were the new record keepers of Polling Marana or Queue Deaths system, which is a new statistical item in Sri Lanka’s progress.
“When do you think we will hit the half century?”
“Not too long at all. The queues and waits are both getting longer”.
“Good time for a celebration. I will keep Maruva Amathi informed”.
Amidst all the confusion about the availability of petrol, diesel, gas, medicine, food and all these needs, the Maruva Amathi Team is very active. The new Gazette shows the KiQ or Killed in Queue figures making a steady rise.
“Don’t you think we should start BiQ or Born in Queue statistics too?”
“Yes, yes …. The No. 1 BiQ is already recorded. The numbers will increase, with more pregnant women having to wait in longer queues — especially to get some food for their children”.
You will be reading on the Big Day of the Aragalaya. This is the loudest day of the Gota Go Home or Gota Gedera Pala movement that is making its uproar heard in many places, from human voices, loud drums and guitars, and metal kitchen utensils that are clearly having more impact than the voices of Gota and Ranil.
Parliamentary Committees such as COPE and COPA are giving the people more revelations that have been kept secret for a long time. COPA is showing the shocking failure to record millions of US dollars on Railway matters, as it did earlier on the sugar import racket.
COPE is making headlines everyday, exposing the crookedness of officers as well as the dishonest and nefarious thinking of ministers and officials, on both local and foreign transactions, gravely affecting the lives of the people. Dr. Charitha Herath MP, is showing a rare competence in the hunt for crooked governance, where the Rajapaksas have been key players for so long, and enough.
The Gota-Ranil Combine has to face the public on so many areas of crookedness and corruption, which must be placing Sri Lanka at a deeper level of corruption in the globe.
Gotabaya had his own score of crooked play with his ban on chemical fertilizer, and the huge cut in taxes – Rs 600 million plus – on VAT and other fields, which gave rise to the lack of money to the Treasury.
The moves to end the people’s action at Galle Face on May 9, saw the actual fall of Elder Brother Mahinda, which also saw the rise of the Aragalaya, having its clear and direct display today.
The Gota-Ranil band or bunch is today having to face more than the faults of Mahinda and Basil in finance, but the overall spread of corruption in all aspects of governance. The continuing fuel queues are also showing the black market play of both petrol and diesel, with dirty play in fuel depots and bowsers.
The Cabinet Ministers who who are unable to tell the people when the next vessel carrying fuel will arrive at Colombo, their silence on continued delays, the twisted tales of delays by suppliers, and the crooked play of tokens for people in fuel queues – is all part of the Gotabaya Disaster this country has come to face with.
The crookedness and corruption is everywhere. They have become the actuality of Rajapaksa Governance. A strongly pro-Rajapaksa Cabinet Minister has now been asked to step down from office by the Gota Lokka himself. How many more do we have with dirty stains of profiting on public funds and cheating the masses of this country?
i-Rajapaksa protests of today – and the days to follow, amidst much political and social tension, and hopefully not – violence initiated by the crooked enemies, are the rise of People’s Voices, for Clean Governance. It is a rare combination of religious and spiritual forces of more than one faith, professionals of many fields, hardworking men and women from all sectors of work, and the rising youth of this country – all looking for a better, un-Rajapaksa driven future.Let’s hope this Aragalaya will soon bring to an end the KiQs or any more BiQs. The People of Sri Lanka will be looking to queue for better living, with good governance, and non-corrupt leaders in clean politics! Will we see the Dawn of Clean Politics, sooner than later!
