Irrigation Dept. issues flood warning

The Irrigation Department, on Sunday, issued an amber flood warning in several districts due to ongoing inclement weather conditions.

The Department warned that the Nilwala Ganga had reached the flood level and there was the possibility of severe floods occurring in several low-lying areas along the river including the Kotapola, Pitabeddara, Akuressa, Athuraliya, Malimbada, Thihagoda, Matara, and Devinuwara Divisional Secretariat areas.

The Irrigation Department urged residents of these areas to pay close attention to signs of floods and to be prepared to evacuate if necessary.The Disaster Management authorities have also been requested to take all necessary precautions.
